Banjaar Tola Tented Camp

To get to the heart of a nation, we must venture deep into its core.

The state of Madhya Pradesh, centrally located, is often called the "Heart of India". It is home to a rich cultural heritage and has practically everything: countless monuments, large plateaus, spectacular mountain ranges, rivers, and miles and miles of dense forests offering a unique and exciting panorama of wildlife in a jungle setting.

Nestled deep within the state of Madhya Pradesh and overlooking the lush Kanha National Park, & Beyond Banjaar Tola Tented Camp allows guests to blend in with the environment.

& Beyond Banjaar Tola Tented Camp is part of a new and complete innovative venture: a tiger safari. A joint venture between &BEYOND and Taj Hotels, this is India's first and only wildlife circuit. This partnership, known as Taj Safaris, creates the ultimate wildlife experience in India, based on a proven sustainable ecotourism model. &BEYOND’s collaboration with Taj Hotels rests on decades of expertise in operating luxury jungle safari lodges offering unique wildlife experiences, coupled with legendary service. Taj Safaris owns and operates four luxurious jungle safari lodges in Central India, situated on the borders of well-known Tiger Reserves in Madhya Pradesh. These four spectacular lodges make up an easily accessible tiger wilderness circuit that celebrates the highlights of this remarkable Indian state.

& Beyond Banjaar Tola Tented Camp is located at the famous Kanha National Park, one of India’s largest parks, covering 1 945 km2 (750 square miles) of pristine Indian wilderness. This national park is one of the first nine tiger reserves established with the initial launch of Project Tiger in 1973, aimed at protecting tigers and their ecosystems. The central parklands are home to approximately 22 animal species, including the three-striped palm squirrel, jackal, wild pig, black buck, striped hyena, leopard, mouse deer, chinkara and ant- eating pangolin. Kanha also supports a thriving population of the highly endangered hardground barasingha. With over 200 recorded bird species, the Park is a birdwatcher’s paradise.

Banjaar Tola is situated right on the edge of the Banjaar River and overlooks Kanha National Park on the opposite bank. The two intimate camps, each consisting of only nine elegant tented suites, have been designed with a light footprint so as to protect the sensitive riverine environment. Each contemporary suite features bamboo floors, canvas roof and walls, and glass doors leading out onto a floating veranda overlooking the river. Each camp boasts its own comfortable guest sitting area with a spacious open-air dining area and interpretive library.

Banjaar Tola Tented Camp is an oasis of peace. Its 18 suites are spread out along the riverbank and into the sal forest. Within its walls and ceilings, we contemplate an India that is ethereal and eternal.

In Khana National Park, the tiger is the king of the jungle, and to see it in its natural habitat, catch glimpses among the vegetation, is a truly fascinating spectacle. Following the footsteps of these majestic animals is a unique experience. It is also a unique experience to glimpse the Banjaar river, or hear, in the silence of the night, the sounds of the jungle from the comfort of our suite.
